Assyst, Northern Virginia – Dec 2009: AFCEA International is a worldwide nonprofit professional association founded as the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA); but it encompasses more than just the military. AFCEA represents top government, industry, and military professionals in the fields of communications, electronics, intelligence, software, information systems, imaging, and multi-media. AFCEA's purpose is to support global security by providing an ethical environment that encourages a close cooperative relationship among the military, civilian government agencies, and private industry.
With the approximately 6,000 members, including representatives from Industry, Government, and Academia, AFCEA Northern Virginia (NOVA) is the largest chapter of AFCEA International in the world. AFCEA NOVA hosts annual IT Day Conferences featuring speakers on information technology. Additionally, AFCEA NOVA holds monthly luncheons featuring leading Government speakers on how information technology enables National Security. At each luncheon, it recognizes the members that have made significant contribution to the Chapter.

In the December 2009 luncheon, Connie Zhong, Vice President for Federal Solutions at Assyst, received the Young AFCEAN of the Month award for her active involvement with the chapter and her volunteering efforts. She also had the honor of leading the Pledge of the Allegiance during the luncheon. Connie Zhong started getting involved with the AFCEA Northern Virginia Chapter (AFCEA NOVA) in 2000. She returned to AFCEA NOVA at the beginning of this year after coming back to Assyst.
Connie has been actively involved in the chapter’s planning committees for a series of annual conferences including the Combat Support IT Day, Air Force IT Day, Army IT Day, and Valentine’s Ball. Those are the flagship events that are held annually by the chapter to facilitate communication and partnerships between the government, especially the Armed Forces community and the industry. Connie also coordinated the event graphic design for the Mentor-Protégé Night, working closely with Assyst International’s graphic design team and the AFCEA NOVA Young AFCEANS.
This award is also a recognition of Assyst’s dedication in supporting AFCEA.
